Red Hot Poker Plants

In our search for plants that deer won't eat, we found the Red Hot Poker.  And to our delight the deer have left these plants alone and they are blooming with very interesting orange-yellow flowers.  If the plants spread they should provide quite a display in the years to come.

Daytime Buck and Babies Step Up For Milk

I think this may be the Buck with the beautiful antlers that we pictured at night last week.  He is a great looking creature.  We saw this Buck in the front yard with 3 other Bucks two days ago.  We've never seen so many Bucks together at one time. On a cuter note, the picture below shows the injured Deer with her two babies coming up for milk.  Momma's milk has to be much better than some grass from the front yard.  We're so happy to see Mom is able to overcome her injury and take care of these two babies.

It is certainly baby deer time in our neighborhood.  Here is the injured mom with her two youngsters framed in the background.  Below is another mom with her youngster in tow.

Deer at Midnight

The camera caught a great nighttime picture of a Buck in the front yard last week.  I think this is the largest set of antlers we've ever seen in our neighborhood.  We've seen this Buck along with two younger Bucks around the neighborhood.  The second picture shows a mamma deer out with her two cute babies.  I guess she is showing the kids how to hunt for food at night.

Sunflower and Snake

We were happy to find two volunteer Sunflower in the front yard.  I guess the birds planted them.  The first is blooming beautifully while the second in the background is almost ready.  Meanwhile when I was leaving the other day, I was surprised to see a 4 foot Black Snake hanging on the chain link fence.  He wasn't concerned about me as I took several pictures.  He had moved on by the time I returned.

Baby Deer Arrive

I was surprised to see the badly injured deer I wrote about recently is a momma.  Here she is with her baby nearby.  Must be tough to nurse that injured leg and take care of the baby at the same time.  Meanwhile two other babies came by for their photo opportunity.  These little critters are so cute.
