First Solar Fountain Performance

The sun is getting high enough in the sky to get the fountain working. The spray pattern isn't too strong yet but it is a sample of what we have to look forward too. The fountain and the fake rocks sure look better than the Styrofoam but protecting the Goldfish is key to keeping the pond going. Other than the Hawk, we haven't seen the other predators this year.

Pineapple Surprise

After a very cold January, the February weather has been much less severe with the exception of some very windy days. The camera caught this picture of the water spray from the filter on one of the windy days. Of course one of the big problems with wind is the pond becomes a natural magnet for leaves. I've cleaned the leaves out 3 times this month and it is covered again. On a surprise note, one of my wife's pineapple is producing a fruit. We have a half dozen of these plants growing and this is the first fruit. This will be fun to watch the progress over the next few months.

Air Traffic Control Needed

A few days ago, the Blackbirds were out in force. There were so many around trying to get to the bird feeder, I thought we needed some air traffic control assistance with landing on the feeder. As you can see we do have a couple of birds waiting their turn on the nearby branches until a spot opens for lunch. Eventually most got a shot at the feeder or on the ground below because the ruckus knocked a bunch of sunflower seeds out. It didn't take long until all the food was gone and they were back to scavenging for naturally available food.
