Nature Never Stops Surprising

The May Flowers are blooming. Every spring the May flower emerge in several locations around the yard. These are nifty plants. The white flower blooms from the main plant stem and above it are two large leaves providing shade or protection. All of the plants have this configuration of 2 large leaves providing an umbrella over the flower that measures about 2 inches across. The flowers will last a week or two and then will be gone for a year.
In the nature surprise, these tree leaves have small red spikes sticking out from the top of the leaves. I don't know what kind of tree it is but I suspect it's not one of the best sellers. The spikes appear to be growing right out of the leaf. I'll keep an eye on them and see what they become.
